We check public liability insurance, employer liability cover, trade qualifications, trade body memberships, financial stability, and collect verified customer references. We also conduct ongoing quality monitoring and remove any contractor who falls below our standards.
Is your service free for homeowners?
Yes, our matching service is completely free for homeowners. We charge our partner contractors a small fee when they secure work through our platform. You will never pay us directly, and there is no obligation to proceed with any quote you receive.
How many quotes will I receive?
You will typically receive 2-4 detailed quotes from verified contractors in your local area within 48 hours of submitting your project. If we cannot find enough suitable matches immediately, we will keep searching and update you as more contractors become available.
What areas do you cover?
We work with trusted contractors across the entire UK including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and all surrounding towns and villages. Use our postcode search to check coverage in your specific location.
Getting Quotes
How long does it take to get quotes?
Most homeowners receive their first quote within 24 hours, with all matched quotes arriving within 48 hours. For larger or more complex projects, contractors may need to visit your property first, which can add a few days.
Are the quotes itemised?
Yes, we encourage all our contractors to provide fully itemised quotes so you can see exactly what is included. This helps you compare like-for-like and identify any hidden costs. We recommend requesting a fixed-price quote where possible.
Can I negotiate the price?
Absolutely. Quotes are a starting point for discussion. We recommend getting at least 3 quotes to establish a fair market price, then discussing scope adjustments with your preferred contractor if the budget needs refining.
What if I do not like any of the contractors?
There is no obligation to proceed with any quote. If none of the matched contractors feel right, let us know, and we will attempt to find alternatives. Your satisfaction is our priority.
Working with Contractors
Do contractors guarantee their work?
All our contractors provide workmanship guarantees, typically ranging from 6 months to 10 years depending on the project type. They also maintain valid insurance to protect you against defects and accidents.
Who do I pay — you or the contractor?
You pay the contractor directly. We never handle your money. We recommend agreeing a payment schedule in your contract, typically with a small deposit upfront and milestone payments throughout the project.
What if something goes wrong during the project?
Contact us immediately if you experience any issues. We provide dispute resolution support and will mediate between you and the contractor. In the rare event of serious problems, our contractors insurance provides additional protection.
Can I see examples of past work?
Yes, every contractor profile includes a portfolio of past projects and verified customer reviews. We strongly recommend viewing these and, if possible, visiting completed projects in person before making your decision.
Planning & Permissions
Do I need planning permission for an extension?
Many extensions fall under permitted development rights and do not require planning permission. However, this depends on size, location, and your property type. Our contractors can advise, and we recommend consulting your local planning authority for certainty.
Will the contractor handle building regulations?
Yes, most of our contractors are experienced with building regulations and can either self-certify through a competent person scheme or liaise with building control on your behalf. Always confirm this before work begins.
What about party wall agreements?
If your project affects a shared wall or boundary, you may need a party wall agreement with your neighbour. Your contractor or a party wall surveyor can guide you through this process. It is best to start this early to avoid delays.
